CHANDIGARH, Oct. 5 — Delhi Akali chief Paramjit Singh Sarna has praised SAD senior leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal for launching the Mai Bhago Maawan-Dheeyan Di Fauj from Sri Muktsar Sahib, calling it a powerful initiative to put Punjab’s mothers and daughters at the forefront of the fight against drugs.
The Panthak leader said taking the campaign to the historic land associated with Mai Bhago gave it a particularly strong message. Bibi Badal has called on women to form groups in villages and localities, identify drug traffickers, peddlers and their alleged patrons, and submit information to a proposed women-led anti-drug task force.
“This is precisely the kind of grassroots mobilisation Punjab needs,” Sarna said. “Mothers know the devastation drugs are causing in their homes and communities. Giving them a direct role in identifying the drug trade can turn the anger and pain of Punjab’s women into a powerful social movement.”
Sarna said Bibi Badal deserved credit for taking the fight beyond political speeches and putting a mechanism in place for people to report suspected drug networks.
