New Delhi, August 22: North Delhi Strikers registered their second consecutive win in the Women’s Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026, defeating South Delhi Superstarz Women by 10 runs to move to the top of the points table.

Batting first, North Delhi posted 141/4, with Shivi Sharma leading the way with an unbeaten 71 off 54 balls, including nine boundaries. Upasana Yadav also made a valuable 43 off 42, while captain Ayushi Soni contributed 17.

Reflecting on her batting, Sharma said, “I take one match at a time whenever I step onto the field. Whatever has happened in the past is good for us if the team has won, but there are still more matches to come. So, I want to stay focused on the next game and give my best.”

“There wasn’t much difference between today’s innings and yesterday’s. Yesterday, I played according to the merit of the ball because we were chasing. Today, we had to set a target, so the more runs we could score, the better it was for the team. I just wanted to play according to the situation,” she added.

Talking about the pitches, Sharma said, “The wickets are very good and they definitely help. Whether we are chasing or setting a target, if I play the ball on its merit, I feel I can give my best.”

Sharma also spoke about her journey into cricket and her early interest in sports. “I have always been interested in sports. I used to play different sports, including cricket and football, and I played a lot of gully cricket. I also used to play football with the boys. My sports teachers would often tell me to join an academy in whichever sport I liked.”

“Later, when I changed schools, there was a girls’ cricket match during an inter-house competition. I scored a few sixes, and my sports teachers again encouraged me to join a cricket academy. I already had an interest in sports, and once I started playing cricket seriously, that interest grew. That is how I reached where I am today,” she further said.

Chasing 142, South Delhi Superstarz were reduced to 1/1 in the opening over after Nishika Singh was dismissed for a three-ball duck. Priya Punia and Tanishqa Singh added 36 runs before Punia fell for 10.

Tanishqa anchored the innings with a fighting 46 off 44 balls, hitting six boundaries. She shared a partnership with captain Shweta Sehrawat, who scored 27 off 23.

North Delhi, however, continued to pick up wickets at crucial moments. Tanishqa was dismissed in the 14th over with South Delhi on 72/3, while Sehrawat fell soon after at 94/4. Ekta Bhadana was then dismissed for four, leaving South Delhi needing 28 runs from the final two overs.

Tanisha Singh remained unbeaten on 24 off 19, while Disha Nagar scored an unbeaten nine off six, but South Delhi could only finish on 131/5 in their 20 overs.

Nazma was the pick of the North Delhi bowlers, returning 2/28, while Reshika Beniwal, Apeksha Anand and Priya Mishra claimed one wicket each.

The 10-run victory gives North Delhi Strikers two wins from two matches and puts them at the top of the Women’s DPL 2026 points table.
